The Benefit of Small Group Training Classes

We're often asked if private 1-on-1 or classes in groups are better. We offer both, and both have their perks. The obvious benefits of a private session are:

• Personalized focus, specific for your dog

• Undivided attention from the trainer

• Pace of the instruction based on your dog's progress.

Group classes have some advantages over private lessons:

• Play-training in small groups builds socialization skills

• Your dog will learn to become calm around other dogs

• Builds confidence around new and different people

• You'll get to meet other dog owners, making new friends

• Less expensive & more instruction time for your money

But which ever you choose, training should be fun and positive, where you can develop a trusting relationship with your dog. Reward-based techniques are vastly superior to training by punishment, such as with the use of shock collars, prong collars and fear. And a 'vibration' or 'stimulation' collar is still using fear and a negative behavior approach. A well-behaved companion is worth the effort you put into training. It will create a calmer household and make your life easier. WOOF! Training Academy is a group of qualified instructors and dog handlers who are passionate about what they do and want to offer the best training experience possible.

Our Director of Training

Jen Miller started working with dogs over 10 years ago. After 20 years of managing real estate and raising her daughter, she was ready to fulfill her real passion.

She started working as a dog handler at a large boarding facility. Her duties included handling 20-50 dogs in the play area and conducting one-on-one play for dogs that were not a good fit for the large group play. Other responsibilities included bathing and keeping dogs hydrated and fed.

Jen also helped the vet techs with giving medication and assisting the veterinarian when needed. She was quickly promoted to Assistant General Manager and managed a staff of 10-15 employees. She is certified in Pet CPR and First Aid. Jen also volunteered with German Shepards of Orange County and Irvine Animal Shelter for many years.

Jen has currently been working as a trainer at WOOF! for nearly two years. She was recently promoted to Director of Training and is excited to re-structure and enhance the training experience of the WOOF! Training Academy. Jen enjoys identifying problem behaviors, teaching owners methods to train their dog, developing a plan of action for the dog and owner, and creating a welcoming and bonding environment. She is an approved AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, offering CGC Training Classes at WOOF!

When not working, Jen enjoys hiking, biking with her husband and painting. She is currently in search of her next dog to add to the family.
